I was lead consultant on a team commissioned to conduct a political economy study of the education sector in
Kaduna State of Nigeria. My team and I delivered a state education sector PEA report and an engagement
strategy for the state education sector.
Lead Consultant (Kaduna State Education Policy Document)

As part of efforts to bridge the policy gap that exists in the Kaduna state education sector, I was engaged as team lead to develop a State Education Policy document. We produced a Kaduna State Teacher Recruitment and Deployment Policy; a Quality Assurance – Monitoring and Evaluation system, an improvement strategy for the School Quality Assurance Authority and a sector strategic plan.

Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption in Nigeria (RoLAC) Year 2

Implemented with the British Council and financed under 11th European Development Fund (EDF), the RoLAC
project is designed to enhance good governance in Nigeria by contributing to strengthening of the rule of law,
curbing corruption and reducing impunity. In this role, I conducted a second (Year 2) survey in the four RoLAC
states Lagos, Kano, Anambra and Adamawa States and Abuja. The result of the consultancy was a report of
changes (from year 1 baseline) in the level of citizens’ civic and public engagement in criminal justice sector
reforms and the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

As part of its efforts to disseminate and perationalize the education in emergencies guidelines on the protection of schools and universities from military use during armed conflicts, I was contracted by Save the Children (SCI) to undertake a legal study on behalf of the Education in Emergencies Working Group Nigeria (EiEWGN). The purpose was to examine extant legal and policy frameworks in Nigeria for the protection of education in times of conflict. I collected and collated data on existing laws and policies in Nigeria to accompany the process of developing policy recommendations towards integrating The Guidelines into national policy and other operational frameworks.

With support from Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) and United Kingdom Department for
International Development (DFID), Riplington & Associates (RandA) piloted a project titled “Promoting Quality Civic Education in the Country”, in three states of Nigeria – Borno, Enugu and Kano states. After the analysis and evaluation of existing public policy documents (national, regional and international) on Nigeria’s civic
education strategy in formal education (basic, senior secondary and tertiary), I submitted a comprehensive policy analysis of Nigeria’s civic education strategy in formal education.

With the assistance of five other rapporteurs, I developed a synthesised report on the main concepts and results highlighted at the summit, which also formed the outline of a document currently being prepared for publication by the Niger State Government.

The Heinrich Boll Foundation in Nigeria supports environmentally and politically ‘green’ initiatives, in order to
promote low-carbon, gender sensitive and equitable growth models. The foundation commissioned a study to
identify and locate Nigerian NGOs that simultaneously work in the areas of gender and the environment. As lead researcher (Southern Nigeria), I led a team that produced a comprehensive database and a report of organisations that met both criteria.

Under directives from The Office of the President, The Ministry of Education embarked on a comprehensive reform of the Nigerian education sector. This entailed deep organisational transformation of both the ministry and all of its parastatals and agencies. My duties as policy assistant to the Minister included defending policy memos at the bi – monthly presidential cabinet meetings at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, providing training
on organisational development to key ministry staff, as well as monitoring and evaluating projects and initiatives under the reform programme.

The NNNGO Network was made up of over 700 Nigerian Non-Governmental Organisations. The NNNGO
provided a range of services and opportunities to member organisations, which included measures to increase legitimacy, transparency and accountability. NNNGO also represented the sector to the Nigerian Government
and other key stakeholders, and at international for a. It also provided tailor-made capacity building trainings to meet the evolving needs of members. In my dual roles of executive board member and Director, Policy and Strategy, I provided policy planning and strategic advice to both the organisation and members of the the
network.

WIMBIZ is a Nigerian NGO focused on increasing the number and profile of women in business and
management in Nigeria. As executive secretary, I was responsible for the day-to-day operation of the

FATE foundation is a Nigerian NGO focused on fostering wealth creation by promoting business and
entrepreneurial development among Nigerian youth. I started out in the organization as an assistant workshop
coordinator, a role that entailed organizing and coordinating workshops and other events. I later took on the role of head of fundraising and volunteer recruitment. My final position was that of Coordinator, Research and
Policy, which entailed developing strategic plans for increasing financial and in-kind donations as well as
volunteer participation.
